Ever feel like you're on a never-ending treadmill of goals and achievements, but no matter how hard you run, that finish line just keeps moving? Yep, we've all been there! In today's chat, we dive into that sneaky little feeling that creeps in after we hit a milestone—it's that nagging thought that whispers, "It's not enough." We talk about how society's hustle culture can really mess with our heads, making us think we need more stuff, more cash, more everything just to feel good. But here's the kicker: what if enough isn't about counting dollars or checking off boxes? What if it's about finding peace in what we already have? We explore how to shift our mindset from chasing after the next big thing to actually enjoying the blessings in our lives right now. Spoiler alert: it's all about gratitude, my friends! So let’s kick that comparison game to the curb and start living in the moment.

  • Contentment isn't about settling for less; it's about trusting in what you've got right now.
  • The world wants to make us feel behind, but God offers a different story of peace and provision.
  • Practicing gratitude can help us shift our focus from what's missing to appreciating what we already have.

  • Learning contentment is a journey; it's all about recognizing and being thankful for God's blessings in our lives.

Speaker A

Hey friend. Welcome back to your daily Financially Confident Christian.I'm Ralph and I'm here to help you break free from money stress and walk in the joy of God's provision. And we're in our series Breaking Financial Change. And yesterday we talked about breaking the cycle of impulse buying. If you missed it, I'm going to encourage you to check it out.You can find all of our episodes at financiallyconfidentchristian.com well, today we're going to dig deeper into the heart of one of the biggest struggles out there. I honestly think this is the biggest money struggle for most people and that's that constant feeling of not enough.Listen, I can remember a time in my life when we finally hit a savings goal we've been working towards for months. And I thought, this is it. I'm going to feel secure now. But the weirdest thing happened the very next week. I just met that goal.I started thinking about the next target, that next goal, what we still didn't have, what we still needed to get.And I'll be honest with you, that moment hit me hard because I realized no matter how much we gained, no matter how much we gained, if my heart was always chasing more, I was never going to feel truly secure. And as you're listening right now, maybe you've been there too. That pay raise come in and somehow your spending goes up.You got that new car in the driveway and you've already eyeing up the next upgrade. And friend, I need to say something bold. The world wants you to feel like you're behind. I want to say that again because it's so impactful. The world wants you to feel like you're behind. That's how marketing works. They want to convince you that what you have isn't enough because they want to keep you spending they want to keep you scrolling. And yes, they want to keep you thriving and chasing for something more. But God tells a completely different story. It's one where enough isn't tied to possessions. It's not tied to possessions at all. It's anchored in his presence. So let's get right into the word of God.Let's start with the book of Hebrews, chapter 13, verse 5. It says this beautiful piece of scripture, keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have.Because God has said, never will I leave you, never will I forsake you. Wow, that's impactful, isn't it? And notice this. Contentment isn't about settling for less. It's not that at all. It's about trusting that God's with you in what you have right now. What you have right now. Let's look at Philippians, chapter 4, verses 11 to 13. Paul says he learned to be content in any circumstances.I've used this on the show many times. He went on to say, whether with plenty or in need. Because why? Because his strength came from Christ. See, that's the secret. Paul gave us the secret. He just laid it right out for us. The secret is contentment is learned. And how's it learned? It's learned by trusting the one who provides. So here's the mindset shift for today.Enough is not a moving finish line. So many people think it just continues to move, but that's not what it is.It's a choice to notice and a choice to thank God for what you've already have in your hands. He's already given it to you. Because when you can define enough with gratitude, with truly gratitude, the urge to chase more starts to lose its grip.So here's your one action step for today. I want to make this practical. I'm going to encourage you to do something I call the gratitude pause. I just want you to take five minutes today.Just write down three to five specific things you've already had that you're thankful for. Now I want you to get specific, not just vague blessings. I want you to think about real, tangible things.Maybe it's your home, maybe it's your car, maybe it's your job, maybe it's your family. So we're going to start there. The second thing I want you to do is spot your comparison trigger. So many people are triggered by comparison.Ask yourself this. Where do you feel less than? It's a hard question, but you've got to really start to embrace this. Where do you feel Less than.Maybe for you, it's scrolling social media. A lot of us feel that way. That's what social media does. It makes you feel less than. So you want to go buy stuff.Maybe it's walking through certain stores or going to certain websites. So that's the second thing. Figure out those triggers, and then I'm going to encourage you to put a comparison filter up.The way you do that is limit your exposure or shift your focus for the next week. This is the time to really think about, hey, you know what? Maybe I gotta unfollow some accounts. They just trigger me, Ralph.I just can't do that anymore. Maybe for you, you just need to shorten your scroll time altogether. You're spending too much time scrolling.Or maybe for you, you skip that aisle that tempts you. And here's one of the things I want you to do today. I want you to celebrate your unique path.I want you to write down two, three or four blessings or opportunities that God has given you that aren't t or aren't tied to status. Because what you're really doing is retraining your heart. When you shift your focus from what's missing, it's so easy to dwell on that. But if we shift our focus from what's missing to what's already here, when you can do that, you stop chasing shadows. If you think about it for a minute, so many of us are chasing shadows. But when you stop doing that, you start resting in God's real provision.Because guess what? He's already given it to you. How about we pray together? Father God, thank you for the countless blessings we overlook every single day, Lord. And we just ask that you will forgive us for letting comparison steal our joy. Teach us to be content in every season, just like Paul, and to trust you as our true source of security. And we ask this in confidence in the holy name of Jesus. Amen. Listen, friend, contentment is about giving up your dreams. It's about finding joy in the season you're in right now. It's all about embracing the season you're in right now. So take that five minutes today. Name what you already have. That's enough. And watch how your heart starts to breathe easier. And remember, I want to give you a free copy of my book. It's called how to Become a Financially Confident Christian. You can get it for free by going to financiallyconfidentchristian.com/becoming. again, that's financiallyconfidentchristian.com/becoming.
