Many of us work hard, sacrifice, and taste that sweet victory of being debt-free, only to be dragged back into financial struggle. Video production Episode 252 Why Do I Keep Falling Back Into Debt After Paying It Off

**Celebrating Milestones and Gaining Perspective**

Before diving deep into the subject, I’d like to share something special. Today marks my 25th wedding anniversary, a testament to perseverance and love. It’s also my birthday, which serves as a poignant reminder not only of personal milestones but also of the journey I’ve traversed, both personally and financially.

**Understanding the Debt Cycle**

Throughout my experience hosting live shows and counseling, many have shared similar stories of financial struggles. A common theme emerges: the joy of paying off debts is often overshadowed by the dread of them creeping back. I, too, have known this struggle firsthand. For example, an unexpected car repair during my college years—when I was already maxed out on credit—led to my father bailing me out. I vowed never to fall into that trap again. Yet, like so many, I learned that without changing spending habits, the cycle would continue.

**The First Step is Not the Finish Line**

The key to lasting financial freedom is understanding that paying off debt is just the beginning. Much like maintaining a healthy weight, financial health requires a change in habits and mindset. Without changing spending habits, debts can easily return. True freedom from debt involves discipline and a commitment to new financial behaviors.

**Finding Strength in Faith**

In my journey toward financial discipline, I’ve turned to scripture for guidance. Galatians 5:1 speaks of freedom: "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” This verse highlights the importance of vigilance—not only in maintaining spiritual freedom but also in achieving and sustaining financial freedom. Debt can often feel like a modern yoke of slavery, and breaking free requires a firm stand and steadfast protection of the progress made.

**Practical Steps to Break Free from Debt**

  1. Focus on Protection, Not Just Payoff: Shift your mindset to safeguarding your achievements. Mistakes happen, but learning to anticipate and guard against them is crucial.

  1. Create a Realistic Budget: Make sure your spending plan reflects real-life expenses, including unexpected costs and holidays. An "intentional spending plan" will help keep you grounded and prepared.

  1. Eliminate Credit Reliance: Consider drastic measures like cutting up credit cards if needed. It’s about removing temptation and building a financial buffer.

  1. Find Accountability: Having someone to hold you accountable can significantly prevent backsliding into debt. An accountability partner can provide the encouragement necessary to stay on track.

**Conclusion: Embrace and Share the Journey**
