But today, we're not aiming for perfection. Instead, I'm here to help you build a simple map so you can stop getting blindsided and start breathing again. I'm Ralph Estep Jr., and this is Financially Confident Christian, where we work to break the cycle of financial shame and empower you to take control of your finances.

A Simple Start to Financial Clarity

I'll start off by addressing a common misconception: you don't need more money to get started. What you truly need is what I call a "Simple Bill Map". It’s a straightforward strategy for managing your bills and avoiding those surprise moments that feel like financial chaos. So, let’s dive into the details.

Step 1: List Every Bill

Begin by making a comprehensive list of every bill you have. If you’re wondering where to gather this information, start with your bank app, emails, or your auto-pay list. Write each bill down, be it rent, utilities, telephone, internet, insurance, car payments, subscriptions, or credit cards. The goal here isn't to shame you, but to give you clarity. Seeing everything in one place can be incredibly empowering.

Step 2: Add Key Details

For each bill, jot down the due date and the amount. If a bill varies from month to month, like your electric bill might, note the typical range. This small step of recording due dates and amounts gives you a clearer picture of your financial landscape.

Step 3: Plan by Paycheck

Turn your month into manageable chunks by planning around your paychecks. Most people get paid weekly, biweekly, or twice a month, so align your bill payments accordingly. Draw columns for each paycheck and list the bills covered by each. This method allows you to regain control and ensure each paycheck is allocated efficiently.

Bonus Tip: Create a Bills Buffer

Here's a pro tip for added security: establish a bills buffer in your checking account. Start small, maybe with $25, $50, or $100. This reserved amount acts as a safety net, giving you peace of mind in case of unexpected costs.

Step 4: Set Minimal Reminders

Don't flood yourself with reminders for every single bill. Instead, set just two reminders, perhaps aligned with your paydays. This way, you're managing your finances proactively rather than reacting to reminders. It’s all about maintaining that clarity and composure.

Gaining True Clarity

The clarity we’re creating today is all about turning chaos into calm. Imagine having your entire bill situation laid out clearly – it’s transformative. Your one win for today is this: create your one-page bill map. Keep it simple with just the bill name, due date, and amount.

With these steps complete, you've taken a huge step forward in stopping those surprise bills in their tracks. It’s time to pray and reflect on our steps toward achieving financial peace.

In Proverbs 27:23, we're reminded to "be sure to know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds." Let’s take this wisdom as our own call to vigilance over our financial lives.

Let’s pray together. Father God, thank you for your guidance in our financial journey. Help us find peace and clarity today. Grant us the patience, courage, and strength to build a system that works for us, reminding us we are not alone. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Remember, you're not behind because you're broken; you're simply in need of a map. I invite you to share any questions you have. Visit financiallyconfidentchristian.com/question to send them my way or leave a voicemail at financiallyconfidentchristian.com/voicemail. I’d love to hear your voice.
