Have you ever felt like every time you finally build up a little savings, life just swoops in and wipes it out, car trouble, a doctor bill, something breaking at home? In this episode of the Financially Confident Christian, I’m talking straight to that frustration so many of us feel. From my point of view as a financial coach and a fellow believer, the real issue often isn’t that “emergencies” keep happening, it’s that we’re calling predictable expenses emergencies. We’ll walk through the difference between true crises like job loss or a major medical event, and normal life expenses like car repairs, medical co-pays, home maintenance, and even those sneaky annual subscriptions. Once you see that clearly, everything about how you save and plan starts to change.

We’re going to dig into some practical tools to break this exhausting cycle: financial compartmentalization (or “layered” savings), creating separate funds for things like car repair, medical costs, and home maintenance, and calculating your annual reality so you know exactly how much to set aside each month. I’ll share how to protect a true emergency fund with clear rules, how to rebuild it when you do need to use it, and how to shift your mindset from “I’m starting over” to “my savings is doing the job it was meant to do.” Along the way, we’ll also look at a biblical perspective on stewardship from Ecclesiastes 11:2 and talk about how preparing wisely is an expression of faith, not fear.
