Have you ever tried to talk with your spouse about giving and somehow the conversation stopped being about generosity and started being about control, fear, and security instead? In this episode of the Financially Confident Christian, I share how couples can move from tension to teamwork when they don’t see eye to eye on money and giving. We’ll talk about why unity in your relationship matters more than any specific percentage, how to shift the goal from “winning an argument” to truly understanding each other’s feelings, and why your different histories with money and trauma show up so strongly whenever giving is on the table.
I’ll walk you through some practical ways to lower defenses and build trust: separating theology from timing so you can focus on what feels responsible right now, starting with a shared number instead of your ideal number, and creating a quarterly giving check-in so you make decisions as a team instead of fighting every month. We’ll also look at the power of a simple question, “What does giving feel like to you?”and how praying together and grounding your approach in Scripture (including Ecclesiastes 4:9–10) can turn giving from a source of division into a place where generosity grows out of unity, not pressure.
