Have you ever walked out of the grocery store, looked at your receipt, and thought, “How in the world did it get this expensive when I tried to stick to the plan?” In this episode of Financially Confident Christian, I’m talking directly to those who feel like their budget is always one step behind their life. We’re going to unpack why “perfect month” budgets keep collapsing the moment prices rise, and why the problem isn’t that you’re careless or unspiritual, it’s that life, and the economy, keep changing. I’ll walk you through how to look at what things have actually been costing you over the last 3–6 months so your numbers reflect reality instead of wishful thinking.
We’ll also get very practical about how to build a plan that bends without breaking. I’ll show you how to create a simple “shock absorber” or “life happens” category, so there’s a small inflation buffer built right into your budget. We’ll talk about why budgeting with percentages instead of fixed amounts can help your plan automatically adjust when your income changes, and why your budget should be reviewed and adjusted monthly, like updating your route on a GPS, not throwing the whole thing away. Most importantly, we’ll separate stewardship from self-worth, explore how to stop tying your value to your spreadsheet, and lean into God’s wisdom (James 1:5) instead of more guilt and shame about money.
