I’ll cover what happens if there’s a mismatch and you get one of those IRS CP2100 notices, why good records are your protection rather than a burden, and what to do if you’re on the other side of the table and someone asks you to fill out a W-9 for your freelance, gig work, or prize income. Underneath all of this is a bigger theme: handling your responsibilities with integrity in the small details, so that both your contractors and the IRS can see you’re doing your best to be accurate, honest, and faithful with what you’ve been given.
