Have you ever said “no” to your child and instantly felt like you were failing them? I’ve had those moments too, where love feels like it should mean saying yes, even when your finances are telling you otherwise. In this episode of Financially Confident Christian, I talk through that tension between wanting to give your kids every opportunity and knowing you need to make wise financial decisions. Because sometimes, the very thing that feels hardest in the moment is actually what leads them best in the long run.
I’ve had to completely rethink what it means to provide as a parent. It’s not about giving everything. It’s about building a foundation of stability, wisdom, and security. That means learning to separate your child’s disappointment from your responsibility, being honest about financial limits without creating fear, and using everyday moments to teach them how money really works. Instead of defaulting to “no,” I’ve learned to turn those moments into opportunities by helping them save, make trade-offs, and think through their decisions. I’m still growing in this, but I’ve realized that saying “not right now” can be one of the most loving and intentional things you do. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about leading faithfully and trusting that you’re guiding them in the right direction.
