What does it really mean to trust God with money when you’re 69, still working, and wondering if it’s too late to retire? In this episode of A Financially Confident Christian, I read a heartfelt letter from a woman approaching 69 who is still carrying shame from losing her mother’s inheritance in a church-related scam 18 years ago. Despite having around $100,000 in retirement savings, $25,000 in savings, and Social Security income, she fears she may never be able to stop working because she expects a $1,000 monthly gap in retirement. We address her questions about finding a trustworthy Christian financial advisor and whether she should pursue a product idea.
I explain that facing a financial gap does not mean giving in to fear or believing the future is hopeless. I encourage you to clearly identify the $12,000 annual gap, consider lighter part-time work, explore savings or IRA options, and “fence” discretionary spending so your money has a clear purpose. I also share practical ways to vet a financial advisor, including checking fiduciary responsibilities, understanding fees, confirming the use of third-party custodians, and using resources such as BrokerCheck and SEC tools. Most importantly, we connect these practical financial steps to Matthew 6:24-34, encouraging you to take responsibility for today without allowing fear about tomorrow to control your life. We close with a prayer and announce the upcoming weekday live show, Becoming Financially Confident, launching Monday, August 31 at 11:30 AM Eastern.
