Watching a parent make decisions that no longer make sense can be one of the most painful and confusing experiences you will ever face. Seeing troubling changes while everyone else believes nothing is wrong can leave you feeling isolated, uncertain, and overwhelmed with responsibility. In this episode of Financially Confident Christian, I walk you through how I would approach the difficult gray area between concern and action when a parent appears mostly independent but begins making irrational financial, personal, or legal decisions. I share practical steps for documenting behavioral changes, recognizing patterns that may point to cognitive decline, communicating concerns with medical professionals, and understanding when it may be time to consult an elder law attorney.
I also discuss the emotional burden that comes with loving someone whose judgment is changing, especially when accusations, isolation, impulsive choices, or financial mistakes begin to appear. As I reflect on Ecclesiastes 7:12, I am reminded that wisdom provides protection, guidance, and life when difficult decisions must be made. My encouragement is simple: you do not need perfect certainty before taking wise steps. God calls us to walk in wisdom, seek counsel, protect those we love, and trust Him even when the path forward feels unclear.
